Want More Creative Time?

There’s one hot topic that’s been coming up in our community that we have to talk about…

And that is the topic of TIME.

Yep, that old chestnut. Finding time to create the art you want, especially when you’ve got another job or a life full of other responsibilities.

We totally get it! Life’s full of competing priorities and distractions that make it feel like there’s never enough time for one of the things that matters most—your art.

8 years ago, Tom was right there too. He was working full-time as a Graphic Designer, squeezing in his art wherever he could. From sketching in his trusty little red notebook after breakfast, to doodling on lunch breaks, public transport, or racing to the studio after work, on weekends, public holidays—you name it.

He was determined to make a full-time art career his reality, no excuses allowed!

And that’s the key right there—the biggest shift you can make is in your mindset.

If time is your excuse, it’s time to turn that on its head.

You have to make your art and your career non-negotiable. DECIDE that it’s happening, and then make sure your art-making time is locked in, no matter what.

Got just one hour a day or a few days a week? No problem. Start there. Commit to it like your art career depends on it (because, spoiler alert, it does).

Pop it in your calendar, and tell your partner, friends, or anyone who’ll listen, that your art is a priority and you’d love their support.

Just be careful that you don’t go too wild at the beginning and start waking up at 4 a.m. five days a week if you normally get up at 7. Start small, build consistency, and work with your flow.

Ask yourself—when do you feel most creative? Is it early morning, late at night, or somewhere in between? Find your sweet spot, and protect that time like a dragon guards its treasure.

You want your best creative energy to go into your art—not get drained by your day job if your goal is to go full-time with your art career.

As Iain Thomas puts it: “And every day, the world will drag you by the hand, yelling, ‘This is important! And this is important!’ And each day, it’s up to you to yank your hand back, put it on your heart and say, ‘No. This is what’s important.’”

Deciding what truly matters and sticking to it is the first step toward creating more time for your art. We get it it’s not always easy, but trust us, it’s 100% worth it.

Once you make that commitment, the practical shifts get so much easier.
